Theodore Taylor III is an illustrator, author, and designer living in Richmond, Virginia with his spouse Sarah and son Theo. He has spent 15 years creating picture books, graphic novels, and self-published zines alongside working as a front-end web developer, a freelance photographer, and volunteer radio DJ. His artwork is inspired by his love of music, comics, animation, video games, street art, and more. He is also a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur.

In 2014 he recieved the Coretta Scott King John Steptoe New Talent Award for his illustrations in When The Beat Was Born: DJ Kool Herc and the Creation of Hip Hop. In 2015 the book was also awarded the Texas Bluebonnet Award. 

C Is For Country, his book with hip-hop/country artist Lil Nas X, was a 2021 New York Times Bestseller.

In 2022 he released his author debut, Off The Wall, placed on Kirkus Review’s Best Picture Books of 2022 list.

Rooting For Plants The Unstoppable Charles S. Parker, Black Botanist and Collector was included on NSTA’s 2023 list of Best Stem Books as well as NSTA’s Outstanding Science Trade Books.
